Capital One Enters Miami Art Week with Artist Alex Israel
Capital One's debut includes a collaboration between artist Alex Israel and Michelin-starred chefs, José Andrés & Dominique Crenn
Capital One will celebrate Miami Art Week this December by engaging with customers on a cultural level and integrating them into the heart of the arts and dining.
These immersive events, available on Capital One Dining, will integrate the visual and culinary arts in a unique way that both cardholders and the general public will have the chance to experience. Our Miami Art Week programming will convene Capital One partners including global arts club The Cultivist, award-winning artist Alex Israel and renowned chefs José Andrés and Dominique Crenn (pictured above).
“With the help of incredible partners in the visual and culinary arts, we are creating an interactive, art-saturated experience where art informs food and, in turn, the food further influences the art to ultimately push the boundaries of a fine dining experience,” says Monica Weaver, Head of Branded Card Partnerships and Experiences at Capital One. “By bringing this opportunity to cardholders, Capital One is engaging with our customers on a cultural level and integrating them into the heart of design, dining and the arts at an event that draws art lovers from around the world.”
Miami Art Week Experiences for Capital One Cardholders
In partnership with global arts club The Cultivist, Capital One has tapped internationally-acclaimed artist Alex Israel to debut Snow Beach Frozen Treats, a pop-up frozen yogurt shop inspired by his childhood in Los Angeles.
Growing up, Israel’s family owned and operated a popular neighborhood frozen yogurt shop, The Bigg Chill. Established in 1987, the shop is open to this day under new ownership and maintains much of its original design.
For Miami Art Week, Israel has envisioned a retro-inspired microcosm of ’80s splendor to transport visitors to another time and place. While public access will be available on December 8, Capital One cardholders can access the installation through reserved VIP tickets.
“When you grow up in Los Angeles, real life and the movies can get a little mixed up,” Israel said. “Even my childhood after-school visits to my family's frozen yogurt shop feel cinematic in my memory, like time spent on a movie set on a Hollywood backlot. It’s thrilling to work with world-renowned chefs, José Andrés and Dominique Crenn, to activate these memories not only through visual elements but also through the sense of taste and the development of uncanny flavors. The hope is to reimagine this sliver of my past — a creative inflection point for me — to make it new again, and to share the experience with so many who will visit Miami this December.”
Additionally, Michelin-starred chefs and Capital One Dining partners José Andrés and Dominique Crenn will create cardholder-exclusive multi-course dinner menus inspired by the installation including a frozen yogurt dessert menu specially crafted for Israel’s installation on December 6 and 7.
At the conclusion of each dinner, within the immersive, movie-set-like pop-up, they’ll serve their fresh and unexpected takes on frozen yogurt’s classic flavors and toppings.
The artistry at these perspective-shifting experiences will transport attendees through provocative food and cinematic imagery, expanding diners’ palates and senses in imaginative ways.
Additionally, Capital One cardholders will have the chance to take in a panoramic view of the city at Sunset Social, an event celebrating Alex Israel's Snow Beach Frozen Treats installation with Mark Ronson and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
All events will take place at 1111 Lincoln Road, a seven-story structure designed by Herzog and de Meuron offering breathtaking views in every direction. Located at the heart of Miami, the unique venue is a short walk from many of the Miami Art Week festivities.
Cardholders can also make advance reservations for daytime viewing of the installation. The public will also have access to the Snow Beach Frozen Treats installation on December 8 from 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
Tickets for all of these events will be available on Capital One Dining starting October 24.
