QuickTakes:

Certified pre-owned cars (CPO) offer buyers additional peace of mind. CPO vehicles have become big business, with every major vehicle manufacturer in the United States offering this type of program. By bundling protections, warranties, and perks, automakers are able to make a secondhand car or truck just as appealing as a new one, with the added bonus of a lower price.

This is especially true when looking to lease a CPO vehicle instead of buying one outright, which often makes for more affordable monthly payments.

Honda CPO Leasing

Honda's certified pre-owned program is called HondaTrue. Each potential candidate must go through a 182-point inspection. Any potential issues are then repaired.

Honda provides three CPO tiers, and each comes with its own specific warranties. Cars that qualify for HondaTrue Certified+ coverage are those that are less than a year old with fewer than 12,000 miles on the odometer. They feature five years or 86,000 miles of non-powertrain warranty coverage.

The next step tier is HondaTrue Certified. It covers vehicles up to five years old with up to 80,000 miles. It features an additional full year or 12,000 miles of coverage that kicks in once the original new car warranty expires.

HondaTrue Used vehicles can be up to 10 years old, and there is no mileage limit, but the warranty is capped at 100 days or 5,000 miles.

How Honda CPO Leasing Works

Customers can choose to lease a CPO Honda that is from the previous five years as a lease. Honda also advertises short lease periods to attract those who don't necessarily want to commit long-term to a specific car or SUV but who still want to take advantage of the lower cost of a secondhand model.

Honda CPO leasing is available for as little as 24 months or as long as 36 months — with several increments available in between. Annual mileage restrictions range from 10,000 miles at the low end up to 15,000 miles.

The Benefits That Come with Honda CPO leasing

In addition to the warranties mentioned, leasing through Honda CPO provides a number of perks and benefits that are specific to the certified pre-owned program. These include roadside assistance — towing, jump-starting, locksmith services, winching, fuel delivery, tire changes — as well as a concierge service and trip reimbursement for expenses related to problems encountered out on the road. It is all under the Honda Care Motor Club banner during the CPO period.

Owners also get up to two oil changes in the first year or 12,000 miles of driving and a free three-month subscription to satellite radio.
