Here's how long your hybrid battery is protected.

Hybrid vehicles offer fuel-efficient and low-emissions driving, often for a lower price than full-electric automobiles. Just like their electric-power-only siblings, however, hybrids make use of a battery that can be expensive to replace if something goes wrong.
Here's a look at Hyundai's hybrid battery warranty and the protections it has to offer customers.

What Does the Hyundai Battery Warranty Cover?
Hyundai's hybrid warranty applies to the vehicle's battery, the starter/generator that facilitates the automatic stop-start feature for the vehicle's gas-burning engine, the control unit that manages the hybrid system, and the automatic transmission's traction motor.
It's also worth noting that Hyundai's hybrid warranty covers the total failure of the battery as well as any meaningful degeneration of its capacity over time. Hyundai guarantees that, during the warranty period, the battery will offer a minimum of 70% of its original capability.

Cars That Have a Hyundai Battery Warranty
Hyundai offers several models covered by its hybrid battery warranty. These include the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid and standard hybrid, and the Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid and standard hybrid.
Some past Hyundai hybrid models may also still be under warranty coverage, such as the Hyundai Ioniq, which was discontinued in 2022.

How Long the Hyundai Hybrid Battery Lasts
Hyundai offers an extensive period of coverage for its hybrid-battery warranty. Each of the components mentioned under the coverage section is protected for a period of 10 years or 100,000 miles.
For anyone living in California or any state that follows the California Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements, that warranty is extended to 10 years or 150,000 miles.
Some owners of early Hyundai hybrids — specifically the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, released in 2012 — benefit from a lifetime battery replacement warranty, but only for the original owner of the vehicle. The transferable portion of this warranty was 10 years or 100,000 miles. The coverage ended for the 2020 model year.

Hyundai Hybrid Battery Warranty vs. the Competition
Hyundai's hybrid battery warranty is longer than the federal minimum by a full two years. This is similar to corporate partner Kia in terms of duration. Companies such as Toyota offer a 10-year or 150,000-mile hybrid-battery warranty on current vehicles, but many pre-2020 models were restricted to eight years of coverage or up to 100,000 miles.
