Article QuickTakes:

Roadside assistance has become a sweetener for many companies offering services in the automotive world. Auto insurance companies make their policies more appealing by providing low-cost roadside assistance memberships or bundling memberships with more traditional services.

Although insurance company roadside assistance plans cover much of the same ground, each differs in the depth of protection they offer. Here's a closer look at what Allstate's roadside assistance gets you and how you can sign up to become a member.

Allstate Roadside Assistance Is Available to All

You don't have to be an Allstate insurance customer to subscribe to one of the company's roadside assistance programs. In addition to making roadside assistance available as an insurance policy option, anyone can sign up for the service or even access Allstate's offerings on a pay-per-use basis. This offers a single point of contact to connect motorists with support services in an unfamiliar area.

Allstate offers roadside assistance under the Allstate Motor Club banner. In addition to providing 24/7 telephone support, customers can access service via the company's mobile app.

What Allstate Roadside Assistance Offers

The two Allstate Roadside Assistance plans offer the same services to motorists. Members receive tows, flat-tire changes, jump-starts, fuel deliveries, and access to their vehicle when they lock the keys inside. They can also be reimbursed for trip interruptions and road hazards.

The key differences between the Roadside Advantage and the Roadside Elite plans lie in the number of service calls offered, the distance allowed for each tow, and the amount of road-hazard reimbursement. Advantage members can make up to five assistance calls annually and use up to 10 miles of towing, with a $100 road hazard benefit. Elite plan members gain two more service calls, extended towing to 100 miles per incident, and an additional $150 per road hazard benefit. They also earn coverage for recreational vehicles, which is not available with the Advantage plan.

Pay-per-use customers can select from the same list of services when calling in for assistance.

Price of Allstate Roadside Assistance

Allstate's Roadside Advantage program costs $89 per year, while Roadside Elite checks in at $164 per year. After the first year, renewal costs are higher at $105 and $179, respectively. Pay-as-you-go coverage includes a minimum fee of $154 per tow, with additional services potentially adding to that cost. There is also the option to add roadside assistance to an existing insurance policy, with rates starting at $25 per year.
