malfunctions galore
Sunday, December 02, 2018
I must have been sold a lemon. I would NOT purchase the car again and I am hoping to one day get another electric type car, but the whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. This car does however have some great pros: -Gas mileage is awesome. I can go 4 weeks without getting gas if i am only driving in town and using the battery that I charge over night. sleek design -I can see out of all the windows and have minimal blind spots. -voice activated commands for turning on music, calling people/ answering calls. music/phone controls on steering to help keep eyes on the road. cons: -doors not working -over 9 manufature recalls. -no software updates -makes odd sounds and gives you the feeling is it broken -different procedures to jump, but doable Below are my experiences if you are interested or have had similar issues: purchased car 3/20/17. 24 hours after leaving the lot, this car broke down. The dealership fixed it for free after not being able to diagnose the problem for 2 weeks and shipped it off to a different ford dealer. 4/2017: car still not working right and simple look over by a mechanic found hoses were switched in a working part of the engine. fixed and on our way 9/2017: software update needed but customer service on MyFordTouch says the software by Ford is not longer supported. Cannot use sirius XM or get vehicle reports or use GPS, go-timers, or diagnostics. 12/2017: transmission leak and 480.00 repair after mechanics say the problem was there for a long period of time and not caught by previous service. Regular oil changes commence throughout our ownership. 2/2018: Doors won't open. The back passenger and drivers doors malfunction and do not open. Door panel simple pops off and door will not open. The door clips may be bad according to googling. After taking in to get tips from the dealer, we tightened the screws in the door panels, however both of them pop off when you try to open the door. 6/2018: tail light replacement does not work and is out during the day, but illuminates at night. numerous traffic stops and numerous light replacements and still is "burnt out' in the daytime. 8/2018:When turning the vehicle on, the car alerts that the key is not inside the vehicle when in reality, it is. 9/2018: when turning the vehicle on, the system warns that the key is not detected and will not engage. After resetting the software, it is not turning on. Placing the key in the signal inlet will only turn vehicle on. and it continues to state the key is not in the vehicle as your are traveling down the road. 11/2018: car no longer starts unless jumped or plugged into battery for long periods of time 12/2018 car has been towed to dealership from whence it came.

My 1st Cmax, a Subaru drifted across the center divide and hit me head on (real world head on off set test). The airbags deployed and the computer called EMS for me. I was not injured but yes both cars were totaled. My wife drives the other. I traded one in because it had no nav or fancy appurtenances which make the car more enjoyable. Ergonomics are top notch. You wont have bruised temples on your head from low entry/exit doors like the Volt. I do notice slight variances in total charge distances even between the same models from 18-25 which is dependent on environmental conditions too(another reason to love warm weather).Honestly I have never had a single issue with any of them in my combined 90000+ miles of driving them so far. If we add my wifes mileage to that we go well over that. This cars downfall? Its pretty ugly so you should at least get a color you really like. The tech part of this car is another plus. I sync my charging with my power companies program(they send me a 500 check for ea car) to charge at .08 a kWh. The great part is you set the car to match so I just plug in and walk away and the car figures out when electricity is cheap and starts charging.Great idea! Its also much faster than a Prius (yabba-dabba-doo) so you dont have any anxiety attacks to deal with. The size of the vehicle is just right for city driving and parking and the 3800 lb weight keeps this sled fixed solidly to mother earth even in high winds. If you are wondering about mileage: 67.2 avg mpg on 50 mile roundtrip commute.really.
