With the technologically advanced i8, BMW blazed a trail within the exotic sports car segment. Moreover, during the i8’s seven-year production run, BMW sold more than 20,000 examples of the sports car all around the world. <br /><br />The BMW i8 offered the car in coupe and convertible body styles, each equipped with a mid-mounted turbocharged three-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels. An electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack powered the front wheels. When driven only on electricity, the i8 was a front-drive vehicle with up to 18 miles of range. Used as a hybrid, it had all-wheel drive and could accelerate to 60 mph in as little as 4.2 seconds, according to BMW.
