Car Overview
Scion FR-S
When Subaru and Toyota teamed up to engineer a small, four-seat, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ were born. Toyota sold its version of the car as part of its youth-oriented Scion lineup, introducing the FR-S for the 2013 model year. According to Toyota, “FR-S” stands for front engine, rear-wheel drive, and sport. The Scion FR-S had a Subaru-sourced boxer-type engine nestled within its engine bay, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder generating 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission powered the car’s rear wheels. Over the years, the FR-S gained a touchscreen infotainment system (2014), revised suspension tuning (2015), and a reversing camera (2016). When the automaker decided to shutter the Scion brand, the FR-S became the Toyota 86 in 2017, named after the model’s inspiration, the Corolla AE86 of the 1980s.
