The Volkswagen Touareg (toor-ehg) is a midsize SUV with seating for up to five people. It debuted in 2004, sharing its foundational engineering with the Porsche Cayenne and, eventually, the Audi Q7. That made the Touareg expensive when it was new, even though it wasn't the most powerful or luxurious Volkswagen vehicle. A redesign arrived in 2011, improving the Touareg across the board. In addition to gas and diesel V6 engines, it offered a hybrid powertrain based on a supercharged V6 engine, which it shared with the Porsche Cayenne. Volkswagen refreshed the Touareg in 2015 and also added new safety features to the SUV. In 2018, Volkswagen replaced the Touareg with the Atlas.
