Keeps on ticking at 223,000 miles

09/06/2019

We bought used with 30k miles on it in 2007 and it is on its 2nd timing belt. We have had many things done to it,but some self inflicted. For instance. No car should go 100k without having plugs removed and anti seize applied to them.We did. So first TB change they had trouble getting one plug out and a few months later it blew a spark plug. The mech had obviously cross threaded it during TB change. Had a helicoil put in and all was well.Other major thing was motor mounts. $1500 with axles. I have always done engine and trans oil changes myself because its relatively easy. I will admit to not being on top of all maint but after 223,000 m , teaching 2 kids to drive, mowing down 3 deer it does use a little oil but runs smooth. We are shooting for 300k

Finest vehicle ever owned

12/09/2019

Purchased 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING in 2011 with 102,000 miles on it. A couple of brothers in law in the used car business assured me that 100K miles on a car are not the deterrent that it used to be. In 8 years we have put 58K miles on it. I love the fact that the leather front seats are 'butt high" - easy in and out. It has an EXCELLENT Navigation system. The large screen is so much better than dash-mounted portables or cell phones. The map graphics are very basic, but the screen divides and shows the map on the left and lists the next 4 turns on the right. It "recovers" quickly when you divert from the programmed route. The ONLY mechanical problem has been having to replace the STARTER. Did, however, have to replace the rear liftgate struts. DIY only cost about $20 and an easy fix. Another problem has been the low front end clearance. The front bumper is so low that it hits parking space curbs - wheel stops, parking chocks, curb stops, That has happened all too many times and has scraped the underside of the front bumper and slightly dislocated it. Not so much damage that it is very noticeable. There have been a few irritating "quirks", tho. On a couple of occasions, the A/C vents on the dash, one would blow HOT while the other would blow COLD. I took it to my mechanic, who could find no freon leakage. He recycled/cleaned the freon (which I like to have done every couple of years anyway - $50) and added very little freon, and both sides blew COLD. The next season both vents were blowing HOT with the system OFF. This time took it to an A/C specialist. He simply pushed the climate control buttons for each side to MAX and down to LOW several times, and that fixed it. NO CHARGE. Other than that, in the 8 years of driving have had no A/C repairs. Also, there were several occasions when it would crank but fail to start. Would happen at random times for no obvious reason. This was an inconvenient nuisance. I forget now how it was corrected, but it was a simple DIY fix once we discovered how. I love this vehicle. Am looking to step up to a later model HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING model soon.

Wreck Tested

10/22/2008

With a family of two young boys under the age of 5, and with me being gone all the time, I needed a vehicle that would make life easier for my wife with easy access to the baby seats, electric sliding doors that can be actuated from a distance when her hands are full with the kids or when her hands are full and it's raining cats and dogs. A comfortable ride for those longs road trips, DVD system to keep the kids entertained, decent gas mileage, front and rear heater/aircond controls, built-in sun shields for the kids windows, did I mention the sliding door windows rolls down like a regular door window, seats folds using one hand. Awesome car!! BUT the vehicle also needed to be SAFE. With Honda's great vehicle test ratings and nine airbags in this Odyssey, the price you pay for this minivan is well worth it. How do I know? I purchased our Odyssey last year 2007 brand new with 15 miles on the odometer, already did a road trip to Orlando Florida and the car performed great as to performance, comfort, and funtions with the kids. HERE WE GO... yesterday my wife got into a car accident, she was T-Boned (hit in the driver side) by another car (Mitsubisi Sedan) with the baby sitting in the baby seat on the driver side sliding door. All curtain airbags deployed preventing impact and glass particle injuries. Thank god- Everyone in the van escape without life threating injuries. The van has been totalled a lost and I have to get another vehicle. Which vehicle will I purchase again? Another Honda Odyssey, I am SOLD on this vehicle!
