Review QuickTakes:
The 2022 Toyota Venza is a five-passenger, compact crossover SUV equipped with a standard hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Toyota bases the Venza on the same platform and drivetrains as the popular Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, but with its sleeker styling and more upscale interior, the Venza is more expensive. This is the second-generation Venza model, which debuted in the 2021 model year.

2022 Toyota Venza Trim Levels and Configurations
Toyota offers the 2022 Venza in three trim levels. Highlights of each are listed below:
Toyota Venza LE – Even in its base LE specification, the 2022 Venza is well equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors with puddle lights, a hands-free power liftgate, and a hands-free keyless entry system.
Inside, the Venza LE has dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, cloth seats, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen display and comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, satellite radio, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Toyota Connected Services is standard and includes complimentary trial subscriptions to four different plans, including Wi-Fi access.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is also standard. This collection of safety features includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert system are also standard.
Toyota Venza XLE – Upgrade to XLE trim, and the Venza has 19-inch polished alloy wheels, upgraded projector-type LED headlights, and roof rails. The interior adds ambient lighting, simulated wood trim, SofTex simulated leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The XLE also includes front and rear parking sensors with an automatic braking system.
Toyota Venza Limited – The Venza Limited is the most luxurious version. It has LED fog lights, but that’s the only exterior change. The cabin features touch-sensing dashboard controls, a heated steering wheel, perforated SofTex, a power-adjustable passenger’s seat, and ventilated front seats. Tech upgrades include a digital camera-based rearview mirror, a surround-view camera system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a navigation system and additional connected services. A JBL premium sound system is also standard with Limited trim.

Toyota Venza Competitors for 2022
You may find that some publications call the Venza a midsize crossover SUV. That is inaccurate. In fact, it is smaller inside than the RAV4 on which Toyota bases it. You could even call the Venza an SUV “coupe” due to its curved rear roofline. Within that context, the 2022 Venza competes with other compact SUVs equipped with hybrid powertrains. They include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

Highlights
Think of the 2022 Toyota Venza as a more sophisticated and refined RAV4 Hybrid, and you won’t be far off the mark. With room for five people, a cargo space that expands from 28.8 cubic feet to 55.1 cu-ft, an average fuel economy rating that nearly reaches 40 mpg, lots of standard equipment, and Toyota’s legendary reputation for reliability, the Venza is an appealing choice in a crowded segment.
