Is there a fee if I close my account?
No, you never pay a fee for closing a Capital One checking or savings account.
What happens to my remaining balance in my checking or savings account when I close it?
All balances (subtract any amounts due to us) will be transferred to your external Linked Account, mailed as a check to the address we have in our records, or credited to another account you have with us.
What should I consider before closing my account?
- Cancel all recurring transfers, deposits and payments
- Make sure your address and phone number(s) are up to date
- Make sure all transactions have posted and are no longer pending
Can I close my account online?
In some cases, you can close your account online. If online isn't available or you want another option, you can call us, mail or fax the information we need to help you close your account.
