How good is a 750 credit score?

Lenders typically use credit scores to help judge how likely someone is to pay back a loan on time. That’s called creditworthiness. And credit scores may only be part of how a lender determines whether they’ll approve a borrower for a loan and at what terms.

Having a higher credit score may mean you’re more likely to be approved for a loan. It may also help you secure better loan terms, like a lower interest rate.

So how does having a 750 credit score affect your creditworthiness? There isn’t a universal answer to that question. Some lenders might consider 750 to be a good credit score for one type of loan but not another. Plus, different lenders may have their own perspectives on whether a 750 credit score is good or not.

The CFPB says that scores above 720 qualify as superprime credit scores. And superprime is the highest credit score profile that the CFPB defines.

Is 750 a good FICO credit score?

FICO credit scores start at 300 and go up to 850. And FICO says that scores between 740 and 799 are very good.

How can I improve my 750 credit score?

It’s important to know how to use credit responsibly no matter what. By practicing responsible credit use over time, you may be able to work toward improving your credit scores and reaching the exceptional or excellent credit score range.

Here are a few tips on using credit responsibly:

  • Make on-time payments. Payment history can be a major factor that impacts your credit scores. The CFPB says you should pay on time, every time. Setting reminders for yourself or using automatic payments may help you avoid late payments.
  • Keep your credit utilization ratio low. Your credit utilization ratio is a measure of how much of your available credit you’re using. The CFPB recommends using no more than 30% of your credit limit across all credit accounts.
  • Pay more than the minimum. Paying down your balance in full every month may help your credit scores. Plus, it can help you minimize interest charges. But if you can’t, it’s still important to pay more than the minimum payment whenever possible.
  • Only apply for the credit you need. When you apply for a new credit account, it may involve a hard inquiry. One hard inquiry typically won’t have a significant impact on your scores. But too many hard inquiries may have a bigger impact.

750 credit scores in a nutshell

FICO says that 750 is a very good score. VantageScore says 750 is a good score. And the CFPB says that a 750 credit score may be considered a superprime score. But keep in mind that there isn’t a simple answer to whether 750 is a good credit score. It all depends on who is judging the score and why.
