Article QuickTakes:

Acura is bringing the ZDX back for the 2024 model year, but it's not much like the short-lived previous ZDX model. The new 2024 Acura ZDX electric SUV uses only battery power to get around and is the company's first fully electric vehicle. Developed in partnership with General Motors, the 2024 Acura ZDX shares a platform, electric drive components, and other details with the Cadillac Lyriq. The ZDX will be available in early 2024.

What is the 2024 Acura ZDX?

The Acura ZDX is a 2-row, 5-passenger, electric crossover SUV. Official 2024 Acura ZDX dimensions are unavailable as of this writing, but like the Cadillac Lyriq, the ZDX will be compact on the outside but midsize on the inside. The SUV comes in two trim levels: ZDX A-Spec and ZDX Type S. The Type S is more powerful, and Acura tunes it for better handling and performance.

The ZDX A-Spec is the base version of Acura's new electric SUV. It has a standard single-motor electric drive system powering the rear wheels, and a dual-motor setup is available to provide all-wheel drive, which Acura will likely refer to as Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). The ZDX A-Spec sits on 20-inch wheels and 265/50 all-season tires and boasts what Acura claims is nearly a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.

Acura tunes the ZDX Type S for performance. It offers more power from its dual-motor drivetrain, and Acura upgrades the electric SUV's acceleration response, braking capability, and handling to make the ZDX more fun to drive. Highlights include a height-adjustable air suspension with performance adaptive dampers and 15.6-inch Brembo front brakes with yellow 6-piston front calipers. Acura also fits the ZDX Type S with 22-inch wheels and 275/40 self-sealing all-season tires. Performance tires are available.

How Much Horsepower Does The Acura ZDX Type S Have?

According to Acura, the ZDX Type S offers an estimated 500 horsepower from its dual-motor drivetrain. That's 160 more ponies than the ZDX A-Spec single-motor drivetrain, which is good for 340 hp. Acura has not yet announced specs for the ZDX A-Spec dual-motor setup. However, regardless of your choice, the towing capacity measures 3,500 pounds.

2024 Acura ZDX Range

The 2024 ZDX uses a 102-kWh lithium-ion battery, which gives the A-Spec single-motor model a maximum driving range of 325 miles. The A-Spec dual-motor model can travel 315 miles on a charge. The driving range for the ZDX Type S drops to 288 miles.

The ZDX is compatible with charging rates up to 190 kW, and Acura claims the A-Spec single-motor model can add 81 miles of range in 10 minutes. When you're in unfamiliar territory, the Acura Smartphone App can help you find and get directions to most DC fast chargers in the U.S., and you can pay for charging through the app. On your way to the charging station, you can precondition the battery to ensure the fastest charging experience possible.

Acura characterizes the ZDX's interior as driver-oriented, and the center console design and slightly angled infotainment screen support that assertion. An 11-inch digital instrumentation display is standard, paired with a separate 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The ZDX technology presentation is not as sophisticated as the 33-inch-wide combined screen Cadillac uses in the Lyriq.

My first word was “car.” That’s what I’m told, anyway. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with them. The design. The engineering. The performance. And the purpose. I’m a car enthusiast who loves to drive, but I’m also most interested in the cars, trucks, and SUVs that people actually buy. Anybody can tell you that a sports car is fast. What you need to know is whether or not you should buy that new SUV, and why. My life purpose is to help you make that decision.
