The Lexus GX has always felt ready for adventure, but now it gets the right look to go along with its capabilities. How Much the 2024 Lexus GX Costs

While Lexus has released plenty of information about the redesigned 2024 GX, it has not discussed pricing. Based in part on the previous-generation GX model's manufacturer's suggested retail price, ranging from the low $60,000s to the low $70,000s, automotive valuation company Kelley Blue Book and automotive research company Edmunds suggest the 2024 Lexus GX base price will stay in the low $60,000s range. However, the automotive enthusiast publication MotorTrend estimates the new GX could start closer to $70,000.

2024 GX Offers Premium and Luxury Trim Levels

For 2024, the GX lineup starts with a Premium model that includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, and a power moonroof. A Premium+ trim level adds hands-free functionality to the liftgate, a wireless smartphone charger, and a park-assist feature.

Next is a GX Luxury variant, which features larger wheels, more creature comforts, and a Luxury+ version highlighted by a standard adaptive suspension and a 1,800-watt Mark Levinson sound system.

The GX Overtrail and Overtrail+ build upon the Premium models with off-road oriented items such as an electronic suspension system and 33-inch all-terrain tires.

Is the 2024 Lexus GX a Hybrid SUV?

If you're wondering whether the redesigned Lexus GX SUV will be a hybrid model, the answer is yes, but there's a caveat. When the 2024 GX goes on sale, it will initially be available only with a gasoline-powered engine. Lexus says a hybrid powertrain will debut at a later, as-yet unspecified date.

2024 Lexus GX Gets a Twin-Turbocharged Engine

Early examples of the 2024 Lexus GX will come exclusively with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine that produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel-drive system route the power to the ground. Every GX also has a limited-slip center differential, while the GX Overtrail adds crawl and downhill assist, a 3D terrain monitor, and a locking rear differential.

Fuel-Economy Ratings for the GX

With so much power on tap, it might not be surprising that the 2024 GX 550's gas engine isn't very fuel efficient. According to Lexus, this powerful SUV will average 17 mpg in combined city and highway driving. (As of publication, specific city and highway figures are unavailable.)

At first glance, that mileage might be disappointing. However, consider the 2023 GX model's 4.6-liter V8 engine, which delivered just 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque and earned EPA ratings of 15/19/16 mpg city/highway/combined. In other words, the 2024 GX offers much more power plus a slight improvement in fuel economy.

2024 GX Is Taller and Longer Than Its Predecessor

Compared with the outgoing model, the all-new 2024 GX SUV is more than an inch taller, with a wheelbase that's about 3 inches longer. Extra length is usually a disadvantage for vehicles intended for serious off-roading, but in the case of the redesigned GX, that's offset by a decrease in front overhang.

The GX Will Seat up to Seven Passengers

Lexus equips all 2024 GX trims with heated and ventilated front seats. Artificial leather is standard on the Premium and Overtrail trim levels, whereas the GX Luxury and Luxury+ arrive with leather upholstery.

Most versions of the 2024 Lexus GX have standard seven-passenger seating, including a 60/40 split-folding second-row seat that moves forward for easy access to a two-passenger third-row bench seat. Optional second-row captain's chairs drop seating capacity to six. Overtrail models lack a third row and accommodate just five passengers.

2024 Lexus GX Towing Capacity

Thanks to its sturdy body-on-frame construction and potent V6 engine, the 2024 Lexus GX can tow an impressive amount of weight. In Luxury+ form, the maximum towing capacity is 6,780 pounds, while the GX Luxury bumps that up to 6,990 pounds. Premium and Overtrail trims are equipped with a standard tow hitch and can pull a trailer weighing up to 8,000 pounds.

Paint Options for the 2024 Lexus GX

Lexus carried over the exterior paint colors from the outgoing GX, except for the discontinued Black Onyx. These include Atomic Silver, Caviar (dark gray), Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl (medium gray), Nightfall Mica (dark blue), and Nori Green Pearl. Incognito (non-pearl gray) and Earth (a flat tan) join the palette for 2024. The Lexus GX Overtrail has an optional Black Onyx roof with bodies painted in Atomic Silver Incognito or Nori Green Pearl. The black roof is standard with an Earth-painted body.

Cargo Space in the 2024 Lexus GX

Lexus hasn't provided cargo capacity specifications for the new GX, though the automaker claims the 2024 GX's hauling capability is greater than the outgoing model. For reference, the 2023 GX provides 11.6 to 64.7 cubic-feet of cargo room, depending on the seating configuration.

Lexus also noted that the redesigned 2024 GX can hold up to five suitcases with the third-row seat folded down, but it provided no details about the size of those suitcases.

Everyone needs a few things to be passionate about in life. For me, cars are near the top of the list. I’m constantly searching the classifieds for that bargain-priced, one-owner Datsun 240Z barn find. I’m always up for seemingly endless conversations about the cars we wish our parents had kept, the benefits of EVs versus the lure of a thumping V8, or which reliable crossover SUV best suits your family and your dogs. Needless to say, I feel fortunate to spend my work hours analyzing vehicle data, test-driving the latest all-new or updated models, and sharing the knowledge and insights I’ve gained with readers.
