Article QuickTakes:

The bread and butter of the Ram lineup is finally spawning an electric variant for the 2025 model year.

Scheduled to hit the market during the fourth quarter of 2024, the battery-powered Ram 1500 REV will join an ever-increasing selection of full-size electric pickup trucks that currently includes the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T as well as the Chevrolet Silverado EV that’s due for the 2024 model year.

By adapting its current pickup rather than creating a clean-sheet redesign, Ram’s initial EV approach is more in line with the F-150 Lightning than the upcoming Silverado EV.

2025 Ram 1500 REV: new electric platform

The Ram 1500 REV will ride on the STLA Frame architecture, one of four new configurable EV platforms the automaker’s parent company, Stellantis, is launching as part of its electrification strategy. The STLA Frame architecture is based on the same traditional frame design that has underpinned the current Ram 1500 since its introduction for the 2019 model year.

Ram 1500 REV styling and tech

The idea of an all-electric Ram pickup was introduced at the 2023 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas as the Ram Revolution concept truck. Although not as radically designed as its concept vehicle counterpart, the production Ram 1500 REV grafts some of the Revolution’s styling cues onto the bodywork of the current Ram truck. Up front that means split LED running lights along with a blacked-out sealed grille that houses an illuminated Ram logo. The hood and grille assembly open as one, revealing an underhood cargo area, or a frunk. The 1500 REV also adopts the Revolution concept’s rear light design, which extends to the tailgate.

The cab and bed of the 1500 REV appear to be borrowed from the gas-powered Ram 1500. Available features could include a panoramic sunroof, bedside-mounted toolboxes, an adjustable suspension, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors. The truck’s onboard batteries are charged via a port on the driver’s side front fender.

Ram has not released dimensions or powertrain specs for the 1500 REV, but the truckmaker says the EV pickup will be capable of supplying power to a home in case of an outage. That vehicle-to-infrastructure capability would match what’s available with properly equipped Ford F-150 Lightning models.

The interior of the Ram 1500 REV features a large, portrait-style infotainment screen similar to the ones used in upper-trim versions of the current 1500. An additional screen mounted on the passenger’s side of the dashboard, similar to the one offered in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, could be an available option.

Ram has not confirmed how much its electric pickup will be rated to tow.

Ram REV pricing

Pricing is unknown at this time, but those interested in the 1500 REV can buy a $100 membership to Ram REV Insider+ program, which will allow members to register to pre-order the brand’s first electric truck ahead of the general public for its market launch in 2024.

The F-150 Lightning saw a price hike in late 2022 that nudged its cost of entry to about $58,000, while as of February 2023 Chevrolet estimates a base price just north of $40,000 for its Silverado EV.
