Article QuickTakes:

Authorized Porsche dealerships sell new and used Porsche vehicles, with some of the used cars designated as Porsche Certified Pre-Owned (CPO). Porsche's program is remarkable compared to many other CPO deals for several reasons, ranging from how many vehicles it covers to the length of its coverage and unexpected flexibility.

Luxury cars like the Porsche 911 sometimes have more difficulty attracting used buyers. The complex technologies and drivetrains in once-expensive cars cause fear of high potential repair costs as the cars age. Premium brands have deployed some of the most comprehensive CPO warranty programs to help ease the anxieties of shoppers seeking a bargain on a high-end automobile. CPO coverage ensures that second hand vehicles get coverage for repairs, parts, and labor similar to a new car warranty.

Here's a look at how the Porsche CPO program works.

Which Porsche Vehicles Are Eligible for the Certified Pre-Owned Program?

Porsche casts perhaps the widest net in the auto industry regarding qualifying used vehicles for its CPO program, officially called "Porsche Approved CPO." The company is willing to include any of its vehicles dating back 13 model years from the current year inclusively. As with other certified pre-owned programs, there is a mileage limit, but Porsche sets it at a whopping 124,000 miles.

Each vehicle enrolled in the program passes through the Carfax system to generate a vehicle history report revealing any past problems. It also undergoes a 111-point inspection by Porsche-trained technicians covering all mechanical, equipment, and cosmetic aspects to ensure it meets minimum Porsche preparation standards.

What Warranty Coverage Does the Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Program Offer?

The Porsche CPO warranty starts after the original new car warranty from Porsche expires (which lasts four years or 50,000 miles). This extends the original warranty for the most recent entries into Porsche CPO as long as their starting mileage is below 50,000.

The CPO warranty itself has no mileage limit. It lasts two years from either the original warranty end date or the date of the used Porsche purchase (in cases where coverage has already expired). It provides the same bumper-to-bumper protection as the new car warranty did.

It's also possible to buy one more year of coverage for CPO vehicles. Porsche calls this "CPO+1." This special coverage is transferable to the next owner and is even available when leasing an older model.

Are There Any Extras With the Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Program?

Like many CPO programs, Porsche delivers 24-hour roadside assistance throughout warranty coverage. Roadside assistance covers trip interruption reimbursement (for hotel stays when break-downs strand owners far from home), emergency towing to a charger (should an EVs battery drain during a drive), in addition to the expected services.
